The Steel Arc Hammock Stand from Hatteras Hammocks is the strongest and safest in the industry. It is constructed from 2 diameter 12 gauge heavy duty steel and has a 450 pound weight limit. The critical elbow joint is made using a newly developped steel plate system. This welded plate has been rigorously tested and has been found to be the strongest available. The stand is coated with the Cape Shield finishing process only from Hatteras Hammocks. Cape Shield is a special process of cleaning, preparing, and powder coating the stand to make it weather resistant and give you many years of enjoyment.  Looks good but issues assembling the stand July 29, 2010

I ordered this item with 2 day delivery as I wanted to surprise my wife for her birthday. I received it fine in somewhat bent packaging (but on issues) and when opened, it had a big part missing. I called Amazon and they scheduled a pickup to exchange it and sent a new stand with a courtesy 1 day delivery. The old stand was picked up and I got the new stand as per schedule. I spent 3-4 hours trying to assemble this stand but the way the holes are placed, its next to impossible to get the washer and nut both properly aligned with the bolt. Neither of the 4 bolts went in properly and after a long struggle I had to give up on this. Also the one pager assembly instructions with 1 diagram are hardly an help. I am still waiting for this stand to be picked up and still without a stand. So much for the surprise.
I didn't expect such badly manufactured stand after paying good money for it. Not to mention the effort, energy and time, I have wasted in unpacking the packages, trying to assemble the stand and re-packing them. I normally don't write many reviews and am very forgiving in nature but this has been a horrible experience. Stay away from this stand!

It looks great but you will need at least two people to assemble this stand, one of whom must be quite strong. The metal is very heavy and the bolts difficult to get into the holes. Also the holes on one side are too close to the center so a socket wrench can not be used on two of the four bolts. You must have a wrench to assemble this stand. Another negative: it came with the S-hooks but no chain which meant we had to go to a hardware store to purchase 2 short chains.

My Hammock stand arrived in less than a week from Texas to Hawaii. It look great sitting in the yard overlooking the ocean. The box arrived in pretty bad shape and I have my worries, but after unpacking it nothing was damaged. Highly recomend this hammock stand, it looks great and is well constructed. It only took about and hour from taking it out of the box until I was taking a nice afternoon nap in it.
