Weak aluminum pole June 15, 2010 E. Kruse (MN) I was excited to get this umbrella, but very mad cause within a couple of days a little bit of wind bent the pole right over !
Cheap Product June 15, 2009 J. Tucker (Rochester, NY) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
It broke within a month where the metal support meets the hinge pin.
Not stable and it looks like it has happened to others.
Nice unless it's windy outside June 15, 2009 A. Peters (Near Chicago, United States) 19 out of 19 found this review helpful
While the product description says this has a cast aluminum pole, it is really an extruded aluminum pole that is only slightly heavier gauge than a beverage can. Within days of placing it on my deck, we had a moderate wind which snapped the pole in two places. My older umbrella actually has a cast aluminum pole and has withstood years of heavier winds. This product would be a nice accent in a greenhouse, or some other indoor application, but it should not be used anytime there is a possibility of wind.
Beware of the tilt mechanism! June 5, 2009 G. Clay (New Hampshire) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
We purchased the umbrella in late March but only began using it a couple of weeks ago. After only a few uses, the button on the tilt mechanism broke off making it impossible to hold upright. It's made of the cheapest white metal. Now it's useless junk! We will attempt to get a refund but aren't optimistic. Next time we'll read all the reviews before purchasing anything. But we're done with Strathwood and with Amazon.com if we don't get a satisfactory resolution.
Nice but slight problem June 4, 2009 Shopgirl 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This umbrella is a really nice umbrella for the money. The fabric and quality seem really nice, the pole is aluminum, which seems flimsy, but it was stable even when it was breezy. The problem we had with the umbrella was the tilt mechanism. Although the umbrella description doesn't say it has this feature, it does, and ours broke after having it up for a few days. We had the umbrella up and went to tilt it and the spring in the tilt button popped out and then the button itself broke and popped right out. We searched the yard thinking it could be repaired, but the metal button was sheared right off. Now the umbrella won't stay upright as the entire top portion wants to tilt over since there is no spring and button to keep upright. We did get a full refund from Amazon, but I think we'll try a different umbrella the next time around. My husband, being the handyman that he is, is trying to come up with some way to salvage the umbrella and keep it in an upright position as it is a nice umbrella and there is nothing wrong with the rest of it.
